What is Kinesio Taping?

Kinesio taping is a rehabilitative, therapeutic taping technique that supports the body’s natural healing process. It is latex-free and is safe for children and senior citizens alike to wear for several days.

Kinesio taping enables muscle and joint stability and support without restricting the body’s range of motion. It also provides extended soft tissue manipulation that extends the benefits of any administered manual therapy.

How Kinesio taping works

Kinesio taping treat various orthopedic, neurological, neuromuscular, and other medical conditions by supporting and rehabilitating the affected areas.

Kinesio Tex Tape alleviates pain by targeting various receptors in the somatosensory system. It microscopically lifts the skin to form convolutions to increase interstitial space and faceplate lymphatic drainage. This reduces the inflammation in the affected area.

We specifically apply Kinesio tape on the affected area based on our examination and diagnosis. We may use the tape as single ‘I’ strips or modify it to the shape of ‘X,’ ‘Y,’ or other shapes based on the affected area. We can apply Kinesio Tex Tape in hundreds of ways, depending on the direction and amount of stretch placed on the tape while using.

Once applied, Kinesio tape re-educates the neuromuscular system, reduces pain and inflammation, optimizes performance, prevents future injuries, and promotes good circulation for better healing to return the body to homeostasis.

The benefits of Kinesio taping

Our chiropractors perform a full evaluation and assessment of the condition to decide if it can be treated only through Kinesio taping or if some other underlying condition needs treatment as well.

The assessment includes manual muscle testing, gait assessment, range of motion testing, and other required orthopedic special tests. The diagnosis helps ascertain the proper treatment protocol to follow to treat your condition.

Kinesio Tex Tape is an essential addition to the treatment protocol to induce positive physiological effects on the skin, lymphatic and circulatory systems, muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and joints.

It may be used with other treatments and modalities and is especially useful in the rehabilitative and chronic phases of an injury. We may also use it for preventative measures.
