Active Release Technique

Chiropractic care is a safe, non-invasive, and drug-free alternative healthcare option many people partake of today. Chiropractors in Dallas and Dallas residents know the importance of combining alternative health care with traditional medicine to reap both worlds’ benefits.

Active release technique is one of the many types of preventative therapies, which have been around for more than 30 years.

What is Active Release Technique (ART)?

Active Release Technique uses a combination of manipulation and movement to treat your body’s soft tissue. It is a patented, state-of-the-art gentle tissue massage technique that treats muscle, tendon, fascia, nerve, and ligament conditions.

ART first identifies and then isolates targets and breaks up the scar tissue in the affected areas. It helps promote blood flow for the quicker healing of injuries.

We use ART to permanently treat and resolve various conditions like shoulder pain, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, knee problems, tennis elbow, shin splints, and plantar fasciitis.

How overuse conditions occur

The one common thing about these conditions is that they are all a consequence of overused muscles. These overused muscles, and even other soft tissues, change in these three ways:

  • Due to acute conditions like pulls, collisions, and tears.
  • An accumulation of small tears or micro-trauma.
  • A consequence of insufficient oxygen or hypoxia.

Each of these three conditions may lead to severe and dense scar tissue in the affected areas. The dense tissues tend to bind up and tie-down the tissues that usually move freely.

This scar tissue buildup can lead to weak and short muscles, tendonitis or tensed tendons, and entrapped nerves. All of this can lead to a reduced range of motion, pain, and loss of strength. There may also be tingling, numbness, and weakness if a nerve is trapped, like carpal tunnel syndrome and sciatica.

ART breaks up the scar tissue in muscles and joints and entrapped nerves to help them move freely again. Each session combines examination and treatment where our chiropractors feel the area to identify the scar tissue areas.

They use their hands to evaluate the texture, movement, and tightness of fascia, muscles, ligaments, nerves, and tendons. We treat any abnormal tissue found with a combination of precisely directed tension and patient movements. The movements manipulate and break up the scar tissue to restore proper blood flow to the area for quicker healing.

We use more than 500 specific moves unique to ART to manipulate the scar tissue. It lets us correctly identify each patient’s particular problems so that your muscles and joints once again glide and move freely without any pain and stiffness.

Benefits of ART

ART offers the following benefits to those suffering from pain by soft tissue injuries through sports, trauma, or overuse:

  • Increased flexibility and range of motion
  • Reduced lower back pain and chronic neck pain
  • Tension headache relief
  • Managing tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel, sciatic symptoms, and shin splints.
